220/ 33kV Sub Station and Laying of 220 kV Transmission Line – Zambia

The Copper Belt Energy Corporation (CEC), the main supplier of the electrical power in Zambia called for tenders through ICB for extensions of transmission infrastructure towards Zambia – DRC border to facilitate electricity power to First Quantum Minerals Limited – Australia, a minning company, for development of its new mine pits near Ndola, Zambia.

The works awarded involved creation of a complete 33/ 220 kV Substation with all associated power and control equipment including installation of 2 nos. 85 MVA transformer and civil works. It also included laying of 220 kV, 23 kms single circuit Transmission Line system using Panther conductor with 100 Nos. of tower erections.

Both the turnkey works inclusive of design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning were successfully completed under capable leadership of Lt.Col. Parvez Handa (retd.) and handed over to the employer, CEC – Zambia at a completion cost of USD 10.6 mio.
